Access the Internet is via a browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Chrome. Your computer should have one or more of these installed. Access to the University pages are free but you will need to get authorisation from your department to cover the charges for external sites.
Storage and Backup Options
The University investment in network storage resources is significant, so personal content should not be stored on network storage systems (eg Home Drives, departmental file-shares etc). Personal content may be stored on staff workstations as long as it does not affect the performance of the system, but should not be backed up with University backup mechanisms (eg Druva, USB drives, etc). If you need to work from home you can access your work computer remotely. You will need VPN (Virtual Private Network) software installed on your laptop or home computer. Your computer consultant can assist you with that.
